At Allen Law, we believe in fundamental human rights. One of those rights, which is critical to the continued existence of a free and open society, is the ability to say what you want to say, without fear of persecution or repercussion.
Unfortunately, successive governments around the world, including the Australian government, have and are taking action to censor people who say things they dislike.
It does not matter if we dislike what you say, you have the right to say it. That is your right, and we will die protecting it.
Allen Law is here to protect your right to freedom of speech and freedom of expression, whenever and wherever any Australian government, such as Australia’s own censorship Tsar, the eSafety Commissioner, has taken action against you.
The government is constantly finding new ways, and enacting new legislation, to censor you, your family, friends and neighbours.
But we won’t let that happen, without a fight.
If you are subject to any novel form of censorship, let us know, and if new laws are enacted to crack down on freedom of expression, we’ll be sure keep you informed, and be ready, willing and able to fight censorship with you.
The eSafety Commissioner is the Australian Government’s first attempt at establishing a censorship Tsar. Basically, an overlord, who makes decisions about what you or any one else, can say.
A recent foray into censorship saw the eSafety Commissioner take action against ‘X’ and Chris Elston, also known as ‘Billboard Chris’, demanding that both ‘X’ and Billboard Chris remove a post Billboard Chris published on ‘X’ on 22 March 2024, by way of a ‘removal notice’.
A removal notice is basically tantamount to a letter which says “I don’t like what you said, therefore you must remove it or suffer consequences”.
Although the particular post in question has been geo-blocked in Australia by ‘X’, both ‘X’ and Billboard Chris have commenced proceedings against the eSafety Commissioner in the Administrative Review Tribunal, formerly known as the Australian Administrative Tribunal, challenging the removal notice.
You can listen to an explanation of the background here or alternatively, you can read about it here.
The eSafety Commissioner’s decision to use coercive powers to censor people is wrong. Allen Law will not allow the government to censor anyone, no matter what.
If you have been the subject of any action taken by the eSafety Commissioner, such as a removal notice, get in touch with us today, to see how we can fight censorship, together.
